Bill Haynie waves his number to bid on an item during the annual Lord's Acre Live Auction on Saturday, under the big tent in the church parking lot. The event raised more than $41,000 this year for the church building and mission funds.
The tents are down and the straw bales and kids games are packed away for another year as the 50th anniversary Lord’s Acre community celebration at First United Methodist Church in Crowley over the weekend enters the record books.   More...

Gayla Sellers has been living one day at a time after a routine mammogram in June 2007 revealed Stage IV breast cancer, meaning the cancer had spread to other parts of her body.
According to the American Cancer Society, almost 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.   More...

Mike Lumley, in bed, gets a visit from Cooma along with her handlers G.L., left, and Jennifer Potts of Crowley on Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Crowley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Training dogs both for therapy duty and to track down lost or missing people is a hobby for the Potts, while visiting the nursing center is a labor of love.
Always an animal lover who grew up around dogs, it was the story of a lost boy in Johnson County several years ago that got G.L. Potts of Crowley interested in training trailing dogs.   More...

Extreme Mutt Makeover shelter dog, Happy, climbs a stack of hay bails as dog trainer Blake Ovard guides him along a course during the finals performance on Saturday, Sep. 19, at Will Rogers Colosseum in Fort Worth. The pair finished third in the competition after training together for only three weeks.
Going to the dogs isn’t necessarily a bad thing — sometimes it lands you in third place in a national competition.   More...
