Monica Daniel, widow of Cpl. Jason Daniel, accepts a replacement Purple Heart from David Bowers, commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Tri-Cities Post 6872, during last Thursday's City Council meeting as Crowley Public Library director Gwen Hopper looks on. The VFW post purchased the medal to replace the one stolen from the library in June. It will be displayed in the same place as the stolen one. Daniel, a Crowley High School graduate, was killed in Iraq in 2006. Hopper also presented Monica Daniel, who is in the Army Reserve in Duncanville, with a Purple Heart coin. The reward for information leading to the arrest of the thief was raised to $1,000. Call the Crowley Police Department at 817-297-2276 with information.
