| Boys Basketball Playoffs: North Crowley falls late to Plano West, 59-58 (Posted 3/6/2010 11:47 am) BY RICKY MOORE mooresports@thestargroup.com A poor shooting first-half and a pair of free throws with 3.1 seconds to play spelled doom for North Crowley’s boys basketball season Friday night. Plano West’s Deshon Portley two free throws gave the Wolves a 59-58 win in a Class 5A Region I semifinal at Fort Worth’s Wilkerson-Grienes Activity Center. The Panthers had one last chance to win but Kyan Anderson’s heave from just inside half court hit the backboard but didn’t fall. North Crowley (33-5) took a 58-55 lead with 44.7 seconds to play when Kameron Price sliced down the lane and hit a teardrop shot. West’s Jackson Jeffcoat sliced the Panthers’ lead to 58-57 with a two free throws with 31.4 seconds to play. The lead stayed a one after North Crowley’s Anthony Guillory missed the front end of the one-and-one opportunity with 19.5 seconds to play. With 14.6 seconds to play, Plano West nearly turned the ball over when Mike Jahner went to the floor. North Crowley attempted to steal the ball but a timeout by Plano West coach Anthony Morgan ended the threat. After the timeout, Plano West broke through the Panthers’ pressing defense. Portley took the ball at the right of the key. He attempted to drive the lane and was fouled setting up his game-winning free throws. |
