Annie Lee Senter (Posted 2/24/2010 10:11 am)
Burleson -- Annie Lee Senter, 97, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Crowley. Interment will follow in the Crowley Cemetery. Visitation was 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Baumgardner Funeral Chapel, 212 N. Tarrant Street in Crowley.

Mrs. Senter was born in Hermleigh, Texas on September 23, 1912. She then moved with her parents to a small farm in Crowley.

Annie lived her life full of spirit and had a lifelong passion for family and sports. Many referees and umpires would attest to her enthusiasm and vigor. A member of two state championship basketball teams, Annie will forever be remembered as a stellar athlete. Recruited by Babe Diedrickson in the early 1930’s to play professional basketball, Annie left it behind to work on the family farm and continue her heritage of working the land. Annie continued her love of the game by playing women’s fast pitch softball until the age of 55. Her enthusiastic support for athletics will be forever remembered by the communities commemorating the Crowley High School Gymnasium after her and her late husband.

When Annie was not following local sports or Texas teams, you could find her at the tank fishing or in the garden with a Coke in her hand.

Annie will be remembered as a strong willed, straight shooting woman of few words who was always ready with an open door to help those in need. A long time member of the Crowley United Methodist Church, she could always be found lending a hand to help or raising a hand in the Lord’s Acre. The mold was definitely broken when the good Lord made Annie. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Ross R. Senter and infant son, Danny Ross Senter.

Survivors include sons, David Senter and wife, Joan, and Randy Senter and wife, Vicki; grandchildren, Patty, Billy, Amy, Brad, Danny and Scott and great-grandchildren, Colten, Mason, Kylie, Levi, Kade, Samantha and Coleman.
